As the mother of a little girl I’ve thought a lot about what kind of woman I hope she becomes. I want her to be kind. I want her to be confident and I want her to always be herself. These are some of the guiding principles in
10 Secrets of Being a Lady by Sheba Matteu. I was offered a free copy in exchange for this review.
About the book
10 Secrets of Being a Lady was inspired by the author’s daughter. The main character Ava is an independent and bright girl. Her mother shares with her the family secrets of being a lady to help her make positive choices. Being confident and sincere are just a few of the rules. Others focus on self care such as eating well and even table manners are addressed.
The book is beautiful! The cover is vibrant in a regal purple, so befitting for its theme. Ava is beautifully dressed with gloves, pearls and tiara.
The advice is great for girls of all ages. It’s never too early to introduce good manners to your children. Even my little one who is too small to really sit through the 56 pages all at once frequently grabs this book for us to look through. The illustrations by Meredith Rushing are lovely.
The mother in this story is the perfect role model for her daughter. She embodies the secrets of ladyhood that she wishes to impart on Ava. This serves a wonderful reminder to us moms to be the positive inspiration our girls need. They are learning how to be little ladies from us.
One of my favorite points is that the book contains a glossary at the end to go over some of the more challenging words in the story. I used to love reading glossaries as a child and I think it was a great addition. Older children can expand their vocabulary and have fun with this fun story all at once.

My favorite thing about 10 Secrets of Being a lady is that Sheba Matteu is donating 25% to Girls Inc. with each purchase.
