What you’ll need

Fortune Cookie Party Favors - Easy DIY

Use pretty paper for your cookie shell. You’ll need something round to use as stencil and scissors to cut it out. Lastly, you need glue dots or a hot glue gun.

Assembling your fortune cookies

Fortune Cookie Party Favors - Easy DIY

Use your stencil (I used an old CD) to trace a circle onto your paper and cut that out.

Fold your circle in half and then unfold it. Slip your message in at this step. You can use the same color paper or a different one. Write anything you’d like on it. Since I was going with a party favor theme I wrote “Viviana loves you” and let my daughter scribble on it. Anything heartfelt will do.

This part is tricky and there’s tons of videos online to watch if you need help with it. After unfolding your circle the first time turn it 90 degrees and fold it again. The creases should be perpendicular and form a lowercase t shape.

Push while holding the edge of the circle, push the crease in bringing the two edges together.

Put a glue dot on the outside and press to keep your fortune cookie together. You can also use a glue gun for this step.

Now you can enjoy your paper fortune cookies.

What to write in your fortune cookies

The possibilities are endless for messages in your cookies. If you use them as party favors here are some ideas.

  1. Thanks for celebrating with me!
  2. It’s a girl! / It’s a boy! (perfect for a gender reveal if you let everyone open at the same time)
  3. Thanks for coming! <date>
  4. <Name> turned <age>! <date> (ex: Viviana turned 2! Nov. 14, 2017)
  5. <Name > loves you! (like I did above)

Let me know what you would use the paper cookies for in the comments below. What messages would you give your loved ones?

Toddler Approved Volcano Activity #FridayFrivolity

August 24 is Vesuvius Day. It marks the anniversary of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD that destroyed Pompeii. This makes it an excellent day to talk to our children about volcanoes and how they work. My daughter is a few months shy of two years old so there isn’t much explaining I can do that she would understand. I decided to make a volcano in a bowl to show her how cool science can be.

Materials

Baking soda and vinegar

Large bowl and plastic cup

Food coloring or washable paints

Assembly

Place the plastic cup right side up in the bowl. Add a few tablespoons of baking soda to the cup. Now is the time to add your coloring if you’d like. When your ready for an eruption pour in a little vinegar and enjoy the foam-splotion.

Tips

The bowl makes clean up so much easier but this can also be done on a tray lined with newspaper or outside.

You can use food coloring to double the science fun and teach toddlers how colors mix.

If you’d like a more traditional volcano shape then cut the bottom of the cup off and use aluminum foil over the top to keep the baking soda in.

Have you ever made a volcano?

Top Ways to Decorate Your Child’s Room

You might consider kitchen room as the hub of your house, but it is not the “most excellent” place for doing school works. Household activities and their noise might distract your child who is trying to master math arithmetic, and moreover, the sound of the TV may provoke teenagers to dash off their grammar test preparation.

A separate room designated for study and homework gives a tranquil space where kids can accomplish their school activities without being interrupted. With elegant and stylish design choices, this room can become a pleasant retreat for growing scholars — and possibly their preferred place in the home. Continue reading

Boobie Beads Help Breastfeeding Moms

Breastfeeding is an absolute joy for me. I love the bond that I have with my daughter and I am proud that I’m giving her just what she needs to be healthy. As I approach year two of breastfeeding, I’ve noticed new breastfeeding struggles than what I was faced with in the early days. Toddlers just don’t sit still. They’re fidgety little things that need their hands occupied with something at all times. That’s why I was so pleased to try Boobie Beads, a teething necklace with double duty that keeps my daughter focused while nursing. I was given a necklace to try in exchange for sharing how I liked it.
