Just a simple smile can change the course of someone’s day. This is the guiding principle of Nicola Rowley’s debut children’s book, James and the Amazing Gift.
James and the Amazing Gift is a heartfelt, feel good story that centers around James, a boy who loves to smile and inspire smiles in others. He is an empathic child who has the ability to sense when someone is down and knows just how to cheer them up. He’s always smiling.
Over the course of the book he comes across an older lady while out with his mom. He gets the feeling that she is feeling alone and tries to reach out.
This is a powerful idea not only for children but for adults as well. Sometimes as parents we get caught up in the day to day details that we forget how a simple smile can connect us.
James and the Amazing Gift is geared towards children ages 3 to 7. I read this with my one year old and she smiled back at James’ smiling face so I believe this would be a wonderful gift for a child of any age. A smile is a universal gesture and it won’t be missed by even the youngest of children.
Something I especially loved is that in an attempt to further fight loneliness, Nicola Rowley is donating £1 for every book sold to a UK charity called Contact the Elderly. With the holidays so near I find it a touching gesture.
I received this book in exchange for my honest review and all opinions are my own.
Now onto the giveaway.
Nicola Rowley generously provided me an extra copy of her new book to share one with a lucky One Sage Mama reader.
